And we have laws that govern activities like driving a car, getting a job, and getting married. Laws give us rules of conduct that protect everyone's rights. CASE LAW

The law in Canada is made of two parts: Case law and Legislation. Both are primary sources for Canadian law. Case law is made up of the written decisions of judges in court cases and tribunals. Case law comes from all levels of courts in Canada.

CIVIL LAW

CRIMINAL LAW

Example: Criminal law is the body of law that relates to crime. It proscribes conduct perceived as threatening, harmful, or otherwise endangering to the property, health, safety, and moral welfare of people inclusive of one's self. Most criminal law is established by statute, which is to say that the laws are enacted by a legislature. Criminal law includes the punishment and rehabilitation of people who violate such laws.
